Lamborghini Super Trofeo 2020:
Asia, Europe and North America calendar updates
Lamborghini has announced calendar changes for the 2020 Super Trofeo Asia, Europe and North America campaigns. These decisions were made by mutual agreement between Automobili Lamborghini and the event promoters in compliance with health provisions regarding the containment of the COVID-19 virus.
Super Trofeo Europe: Misano replaces Monza
Following the cancellation of the GT World Challenge Europe Powered by AWS round at Monza (initially scheduled for the weekend of 17-19th April), the Super Trofeo Europe season opener has been pushed back to the end of May, with the Circuit Paul Ricard hosting the first round.
As a result, Misano Adriatico will take the place of Monza as the replacement round and is now scheduled to run on the opening weekend of July (3-5th). Thereafter, the season will run as previously announced with the rounds at Spa-Francorchamps, Nürburgring and Barcelona all supporting the SRO Motorsport backed GT World Challenge Europe by AWS series.
Misano Adriatico will also host the final two races of the Super Trofeo Europe season as well as the Lamborghini World Finals on the last weekend in October.
Super Trofeo Asia: Season Suspended with Alternative Events Planned
In the wake of rounds one and two of the GT World Challenge Asia Powered by AWS being postponed, due to ongoing concerns regarding the spread of COVID-19, Automobili Lamborghini has decided to suspend the Super Trofeo Asia season for this year.
This decision has been taken due to the ongoing uncertainty over international travel restrictions and widespread social disruption in many countries, which will likely last for some months to come.
However, in light of this suspension, Lamborghini Squadra Corse is working to replace the suspended events with an alternative calendar later in the year for customer teams, in cooperation with SRO Motorsport. More information about these events will be communicate in due course.
Super Trofeo North America: Championship starts at “The Glen”
The outbreak of COVID-19 has also affected the start of the North American season, due to the postponement of the Grand Prix of Alabama (initially scheduled for the weekend of April 3-5th). In cooperation with the series promoter IMSA, a six-round calendar is still on the cards, with the season scheduled to kick off at Watkins Glen on the weekend of June 25th-27th.
The Alabama round will be replaced by Road America on the weekend of August 6th-8th, while Toronto and Laguna Seca retain their places on the revised calendar alongside Watkins Glen.
The season will conclude as planned at Misano Adriatico ahead of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo World Finals.
