The Lamborghini Huracán GT3 inaugurates
the Blancpain GT Series’ season with a victory
There could not be any better way to inaugurate the new season of the Blancpain GT Series. The n. 63 Grasser Racing Team’s Lamborghini Huracán GT3, reigning champion of the prestigious GT series by SRO, triumphed at Zolder during the opening round of the Sprint Cup.
The authors of the victory are the Lamborghini Squadra Corse Factory Drivers Mirko Bortolotti and Christian Engelhart, supported by the irreproachable teamwork of the Austrian team and the performance of the Italian GT machinery.
Started from the first row in Race 1 with Christian Engelhart at the wheel, the Lamborghini Huracán GT3 built its victory halfway through the race, during the pit stop window. Engelhart made a strong in-lap, the pit stop was quick and free of smudges and Mirko Bortolotti, in his out lap, immediately attacked and dominated the race until the checkered flag, in front of the two WRT Team’s Audi R8 LMS.
Also noteworthy is the excellent sixth place of the Huracán GT3 n. 19, always fielded by the Grasser Racing team, with the crew formed by the Lamborghini Factory driver Andrea Caldarelli and the GT3 Junior Driver Ezequiel Perez Compaq.
In Race 2, the Lamborghini Huracán GT3 n. 63 started in the lead thanks to the pole position of Mirko Bortolotti, but the outcome of the race was less fortunate than the race of the previous day. During the pit stop, while the car was in the lead, a mechanic in the stop area caused a drive through penalty for the car n. 63 of the Grasser Racing Team, which then closed the race at eighth place.
Podium finish, however, for the Huracán GT3 n.19 of the GRT with Andrea Caldarelli and Ezequiel Perez Compaq, who obtained an excellent third place.
The next round of the Blancpain GT Series is scheduled on April 21-22 at Monza, with the three-hours Endurance Cup race. During the weekend there will be also the first European round of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo one-make series.
